Friedrichstrasse, Jannowitzbrücke, Schlossbrücke
For your Berlin Spree Cruise by Day or Evening you can board the boat from one of the three cruise departure points at Friedrichstrasse, Jannowitzbrücke, or Schlossbrücke (Castle Bridge).
Berlin is a city on the water with a total of more than 180 km (108 miles) of navigable waterways, including the River Spree and Landwehrkanal, plus 150 km (90 miles) of non-navigable waters. Amazingly, the city has five times as many bridges as Venice (around 2,100)! A cruise along the Spree is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing ways to enjoy the magnificent buildings and monuments of Berlin. Choose the day cruise for perfect views of the spectacular architecture or, for a more romantic experience, opt for the Evening cruise. In both cases a commentary in German is given on board.
If you board your boat at Jannowitzbrücke the cruise will take you under the Oberbaumbrücke Bridge and through the lock at Oberschleuse. You will sail down the Landwehrkanal, which connects the upper part of the Spree in Friedrichshain with its lower part in Charlottenburg.
Travel on past Kreuzberg, which used to be one of the poorest parts of the city but is now an important cultural quarter, and Potsdamer Platz, one of the most famous public squares and traffic intersections in the city. Cruise past the historic Tiergarten, once a hunting forest for the Electors of Brandenburg, and Corneliusbrücke.
You will pass the Unterschleuse (lock) and past the Spreekreuz area of the city. See the Bellevue Palace, the principal residence of the German President and admire the striking architecture of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (the House of World Cultures), one of the leading European centers for contemporary art.
You will pass the main railway station, the Hauptbahnhof and the Bundeskanzleramt, the executive office of the German Chancellor, and parliamentary buildings like the Jakob-Kaiser-Haus, the Paul-Löbe-Haus, and the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus.
See the Reichstag, the reconstructed home of the German parliament with its magnificent dome by Norman Foster, and Friedrichstrasse, one of Berlin’s most important shopping streets. Get great views of Museum Island, home to five magnificent Museums and a world heritage site.
You will pass the domes of Berlin’s baroque Cathedral and the Nikolai Quarter, the oldest part of town, before going through the lock at Mühlendammschleuse and back to Jannowitzbrücke.
Your tour ends at the point at which you joined the cruise.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
